went out with friends last night & had some "pico de gallo" - watermelon w/fresh lime, salt & chili powder. it was delicious!
on side note: my favorite vegetarian had a momentary lapse in judgment & wanted to first make sure the "chili" didn't have any meat in it. she opted for the grilled corn!

Attention all New Yawkers!

My good friend from college, Sterlin Harjo, has a week-long run of his newest film, Barking Water, at the MoMA. The story is set against a road trip through my beautiful & wide-open homeland, Oklahoma.
The run ends on Monday, so you've (ahem... we've) still got some time to check it out.

I've really been itching to put my photographer hat back on lately. Luckily, I have a shoot coming up with my sweet (and very talented) friend, Travis, and his band, deVries. We're heading out to Tilden Beach later this month to shoot some updated photos with the band's new line up.
Tilden Beach is really an old fort (AKA "Fort Tilden") with lots of abandoned concrete structures scattered along the beach dunes. I've been wanting to check it out for a while now.
I'm always collecting inspiration images. Before a shoot, I'll gather them up and try to get a sense of why I was drawn to them. My "deVries" folder has a lot of Beatles & Joy Division in it:

George, the neverending inspiration.

Joy Division by Anton Corbijn.

Oops, wrong folder...

I can't tell you how much engagement photos annoy me.BUT this one of our friends, Jonny & Kaitlyn, is super cute. They're getting married this month, and, sadly, we can't make it. Fortunately, we have Jonny's collages to get us through:

Sparkle on...

One of Grant's true heroes died last Saturday. Mark Linkous (a.k.a. Sparklehorse) seemed like such a sensitive & attuned man, not to mention incredibly talented... Reminds me much of my Grant in so many ways.

SOUND + VISION

My main squeeze's new audio/visual blog: MAN-MADE OBJECTS. He writes the songs & shoots the video & then ties a little bow on top & gives it to you on this blog.
You can also listen to him on MySpace.

Trash! Won't pick it up...

My pal, Casey, has a new blog documenting Brooklyn trash. Hear that, Manhattan? Our trash is just as cool as yours!
When she's not hunting down her native rubbish, she focuses her creative talents on less stinky endeavors:

Uh, how do you call your lover boy?
